[10 Dec 2009|03:40pm] princessbobbie First term of nursing school is finally over! We had our last final wednesday morning and then went for an after party. Everyone was on pins and needles waiting for grades to be posted, of course. We had cheesecakes and spinach dip and a drink called apple pie that was just heavenly! Afterwards I came home and forgot to call my mom. It was her birthday...oops. She called later that night and told me she understood. With finals and kids and Hunter's surgery on monday I have been a little frazzled. Today we went in and gave one of our instructors a gift that we made. Each one of us did a scrapbook page of our families and put it together for her. She has been offered a job closer to her home and we really want her to know that we love her and she is really needed with us. She cried, we cried, it was great!She is going to email us her final decision when she gets home from her cruise. Time for me to get some things done before the kids get home! 4 comments|post comment

[08 Dec 2009|04:55pm] momofquacker years and years and YEARS ago, when i was still a kid, my mom had helped start up an on-line group. My mom was one of the 'founding mothers', so to speak. Today, on facebook, one of her old friends from the group contacted me. She remembers me, and my brothers and my father, and every year at Christmas they say a prayer in memory of my mother. [06 Dec 2009|09:43am] princessbobbie Well, my week has deviated a little from what I had previously posted, but in a good way. I went into the lab thursday to practice lab skills and head to toe assessments. My lab check off was scheduled for friday and my assessment was scheduled for monday. Kelly- the instructor had been running really early and the next student's patient wasn't there yet, so she volunteered me to grab another student and do my final on the spot. So, I did. Jill was my willing patient and I ended up getting a 98. Missed two things out of a hundred. Not too bad seeing as I did it 4 days early and not on my patient. Friday I did my lab final and got 99 on that. We had to go in and draw scenatios out of a bowl and the one scenario I didn't want to do was sterile wound dressing change. I knew it, but really wanted to do a tube feeding or just something else. Well, I drew the flippin sterile dressing change anyways. It was ok, like I said, I knew it. So two finals are out of the way. I got my hair cut yesterday as planned. My little reward. Tomorrow we have final review for our fundamentals written final on wednesday. I have my clinical evaluation at 11am, where we meet with our clinical instructor, get her feedback on our skills and our final grade for that section. I am interested to hear what she has to say. I know what she was telling me at clinical and in post conference each day, but I want to see if she has anything to add. Then tuesday I have to take Hunter to his EENT appointment to have the doctor look at his tonsils and schedule his surgery. Poor boy. I am glad we are getting it done now and not waiting though. He is young and healthy and will bounce back really fast. And..he gets to have all of the goodies he wants and doesn't have to share with brothers for a whole week. I think he will get an extra christmas present for being good thru it all as well. He deserves it. Wednesday will be my last final of the term and then I have a month off. Hopefully all will go well and I can move on to med-surg in january :D Ok, I gotta hit the books. TTFN post comment

[03 Dec 2009|07:51am] princessbobbie This week has been jam packed and it's not even over yet :D Monday we had fundamentals lecture, notes for the final. Then we went to lunch and after lunch went to the lab to practice for finals. Tuesday we had lab practice in the morning and then lunch followed by assessment test then practice in the lab. Wednesday we had practice in the lab then fundamentals test then pot luck then practice in the lab. Came home yesterday with a killer headache and ended up taking a hot bath, ordering pizza and going to bed early with my Hunter bug to watch ghost hunters :D Today I have to finish putting together my portfolio that is due tomorrow, practice lab and assessment finals, start studying for fundamental written final and pick up a v-smile that I am buying off craigslist. Somewhere in there I need to pay a few bills. Friday I have lab final and studying for fundamentals written, practice assessment. Saturday I am getting my hair cut, winterfest with the boys (pics with santa downtown)studying for fundamentals final and manage the boys while hubby goes hunting. Sunday more fundamentals final and run thru assessment a million times for monday's final. Monday is assessment final and clinical evaluations. Then I am done for the term!!! The end is near!!
